After we set up camp, Ron decided he was going to do some fishing, while I went for my "walk around the lake". The geese are not as much a nuisance as their droppings are. And the beavers have done a number on some of the wooded spots around the lake, especially over in the cove by site #15.

The dam area looks just the same as it always has, except for the bridge at the
bottom that was built so you don't have to use the rocks to get to the other side.
(In other words, they took all the fun out of it).

Towards the end of the day, we drove up to the monument. We used to "hike" to the monument from the camping area. Once there, we would then "climb" the almost 300 steps to the top, and then hike back to the campsite. The monument is currently closed for restoration and should reopen next year. When we arrived back at the campsite, it was time to get the fire ready for the coming darkness as the sun proceeded to set on Sawmill Lake.
